A SPECIAL PORTAL FOCUS ON AFRICA ( MARCH / APRIL 2000)

HOUSEHOLD GOODS FORWARDERS ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA

INGAR established in Mozambique since 1984, is not only acknowledged as a pioneer in the local moving and freight forwarding business but also know  for its speed, skill and efficiency in every move.

Over the past several  years INGAR has handled more household and personal effects than any other firm in Mozambique, reports Managing Director J.Abraham

With its own trucks, moving equipment , carpenters and foreign trained professional packers, INGAR need not subcontract. This ensures that regardless of whether INGAR handles origin services for worldwide International shipments or destination services for delivery from port of entry Maputo or Beira to within Mozambique , Swaziland, Zimbabwe , Zambia , Malawi or South Africa it is able to offer a one-stop , all inclusive service with total control and efficiency.

INGAR was selected by ONUMOZ, a UN peace- keeping organization in Mozambique to clear and transport 700 tons of personal effects and equipment, since it was the only company in Southern Africa that could do so within 48 hours notice. INGAR is proud to be able to hold in its files several references from highly satisfied V.I.P. clients like Ambassadors, UN Representatives and others.

Abraham reports that the recent flooding in Mozambique had caused extensive damages to the country’s north – south highway system, though air and ocean traffic are still possible. To help alleviate the human suffering resulting from the tragedy, INGAR has substantially reduced its rates for handling and distributing high volumes of relief aid. Whenever small amounts of relief aid are involved , says Abraham, INGAR tries to provide its services free wherever possible.

FTW – A Freight & Trading Weekley  special freature – June 2002

After 17 years in the moving and International freight forwarding business Maputo-based INGAR can make a claim which few companies in the industry worldwide can equal. " We' ve had no losses and certainly no pilferage to report at our end here in Mozambique " , says managing director Joseph Abraham.

It speaks volumes for a company which handled vast amounts of international aid, equipment and household effects in Mozambique during the 1990's. In one instance INGAR was selected by ONUMOZ, a U.N. peace keeping organization in Mozambique, to transport 700 tons of personal effects and equipment landed in 45 containers at the port of Maputo. These had to be sent 600 Km north to Inhambane at a 48 hours notice, and were dispatched to reach their destination without any hitches.

"Our main business is moving goods, whether household or consignments, and we have done this successfully with the assistance of a worldwide network in 130 countries", says Abraham whose company is also Mozambique agents for the South African company a. Hartrodt.

"We are in-house logistics providers through our network, and handle a good deal of airfreight to Europe, U.S. and Africa especially in our association with Hartrodt. What we have stipulated at all times is that we don't handle less than a container load when it concerns general cargo via surface, and for domestic purposes we have our own fleet of four trucks to service the country.

With regular deliveries from the MACS vessel schedule and a number of feeder services also calling at Maputo, Abraham predicts confidently that there will be more direct vessels calling at Maputo when the new harbor development plans are in place. "We' ve been here since 1984, through the thick and thin of it all, and now we are geared up to meet the future growth of this nation".
